Touted to be the biopic of a beloved leader and former Chief Minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. Mahi V Raghav is helming this project. Bollywood Megastar Mammootty is playing the role of YSR in the film. Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devireddy are bankrolling this project under 70 MM Entertainments banner. The movie is slated for release on February 8th. During a promotional interview, Mahi V Raghav has shared some interesting things about the film. Here are some excerpts:

Why did you pick up the biopic on YSR?

We did not do it intentionally. In fact, I don’t even have the talent to narrate a story of a person. But from the past 7 to 8 years, whoever I met used to talk about YSR only. While filming ‘Anando Brahma’ movie, my interest in the biopic also grew. Whenever I ask someone about him, they say so many good things about him. It is very rare for a politician by getting love from this many people. That’s why I decided to do a movie on him.

Have you met the family members of YSR?

Before doing the film, as the movie is based on by his Padayatra only, I thought that there won’t be any controversies. After preparing the poster, I went to Jagan Anna and he stated that he has already seen the poster and liked it.

The reason behind roping in Mammootty?

Not only me. Any director who wants to do a movie will consider Mammootty as one of the top three options. Initially, I didn’t want to show Mammootty as YSR but after seeing his body language, I thought that he would be perfect for that role as his body language matches with YSR.

Do you think that the movie will create an impact on the collections?

Nowadays, the voters are being very wise. They are making calculations that what will they get by casting their vote. I don’t really think that the single film can create an impact on the state elections. Because, if it is true then everyone would have become Chief Ministers by now.

Why have you picked up only ‘Padayatra’ as the main theme?

The movie not only showcases his the Padayatra but also has some subplots like Aarogyasri, Fees reimbursement schemes etc. We used the different cinematic timeline and the movie ends with the completion of YSR’s ‘Padayatra’ and we used Penchal Das’ song to portray other important things in YSR’s life.
